Tsubaki Head Spa

Saturday, March 31, 2012
Last week, I got the chance to be one of the bloggers to experience Tsubaki's Head Spa range as I attended the bloggers' launch at the Shiseido office last week. The lighting wasn't really good there, so I didn't take much pictures... well to be precise I'll only use one of the pictures here in this post!

The head spa range consists of 4 products, 2 shampoos, a conditioner, and a hair treatment. As the name suggests, the range is actually catered to not only let you pamper your hair, but also your scalp - which many of the products out there do not do.

So, a little background on Tsubaki. Regulars at Watsons will have definitely seen this brand before, and their existing ranges (the red and the white bottles) on the shelves of Watsons. Tsubaki was first released in March 2006, and 'Tsubaki' is actually the Japanese name for the Camellia flower, and because each of the ranges contains the camellia oil ingredients, the brand got its name from the flower. (Apart from the new range, Tsubaki is also launching new additions - hair treatments - to the existing ranges)

Due to the increase in desire to achieve 'beautiful hair from the roots', Tsubaki introduces Head Spa that cultivates beautiful, shiny hair from the scalp through a combination of natural essenial oils and responds to increasing scalp care needs to provide a relaxing experience like in a spa salon. The range uses a combination of natural essential oils which includes Marigold, Rose, Cinnamon, Geranium, Mango, Honey, Olibanum, Litchi, Patchouli, Tangerine, Orange Flower, Muguet, Laurel Leaf, Cognac Oil, Vetiver, Must, Cedar wood, Sandalwood, Jasmine, Bergamot, and Vanilla.
1.Formulated for scalp detox, blood circulation and moisturizing effect using sage, rosemary, ginger, and shea butter.
2. Formulated for moisturizing and shining hair using High-pruity Tsubaki Oil EX.
3. Head Spa's fine-textured foam penetrates the nutrients deep into hair and scalp which removes build-up and residue to create graceful hair and keeps it shining from root to tip.

I've already tried the whole range and will provide a short review after the introduction of each product. I am in loveeee with the scent of the range! It has a really unique and calming scent as well~

First up, is the Tsubaki Head Spa Extra Cleansing Shampoo. (280ml, $15.90)

Feature: Remove accumlated sebum and dead skin cells as well as stying products at once. Washes away waste and impurities from the scalp and hair.
Freshens oily scalp.
Gentle cooling effect that firs and tightens the pores of the scalp.
Defends against danruff and itchiness.
Frequency: Once a week.
My say: When i first heard of the 'deep cleansing' aspect of this product, I was expecting it to be really drying on the hair and scalp because of it's supposed to strip your hair of all the sebum and such. However, when i tried it out, that wasn't the case. The gel shampoo lathers quickly and easily and feels milding cooling. It didn't leave my hair feeling overly dry like I had expected it to. It did tangle my hair slightly while lathering, but nothing a little conditioner/hair mask couldn't fix.

Next, Tsubaki Head Spa Mask Treatment (180g, $22.90)

Features: Cultivating beautiful, shiny hair from the scalp. Concentrates the beauty of the hair and the scalp.
Leads to seemingly reborn beautiful, shiny hair by encouraging blood flow through massage.
Prevades the scalp and hair, making the scalp soft and hair smooth.
Changes from warm to cool after use.
Frequency: Use when appropriate.
My say: You know how growing up, you've always been told never to put conditioner or hair mask onto your scalp because they will clog your scalp?? Well, this is actually something that you put onto your scalp and massage downward! You're supposed to dispense it onto your scalp directly with the nozzle head, but i found it hard to do in the shower where there isn't a mirror, so i just applied onto my fingertips and rubbed it onto my scalp and the length of my hair. My hair was so amazingly smooth, light, and clean after the wash! The mask has a silky texture which was easy to work with. Definitely a 2 thumbs up from me.

Lastly, Tsubaki Head Spa Shampoo & Conditioner ($19.90, 550ml)

Shampoo

Features: Shampoo that cultivates beautiful, shiny hair from the scalp.
Produces fined textured and tight fitting bubbles.
Washes away with a faint cool feeling.
Deeply cleans all impurities while gentlying caring for the scalp and hair.
Frequency: Daily
My say: Unlike the Extra Cleansing shampoo, this shampoo has the consistency and texture (but in gold colour, seriously!) of usual shampoos. It lathers up into a light fluffy lather, as opposed to the extra cleansing shampoo which has a denser lather. Again, it leaves a light cooling sensation when used and tangles slightly (also nothing a little conditioner/hair mask wouldn't fix).

Conditioner

Features: Provides an environment on the scalp that cultivates beautiful, shiny hair, through scalp cleaning, moisturizing, and nourishing ingredients.
Creates shiny hair that is flexible and together all the way to its tips.
Frequency: Daily
My say: Just like the hair masque, I was really surprised that I could apply this conditioner to the scalp too. It sure does make getting rid of tangles a whole lot easier, and feels great to know that I can be pampering my scalp after all the countless tortures on it! The conditioner has a creamy texture like most conditioners, and absorbed really quickly because immediately after i applied the conditioner, I could feel the tangles detangling!

This does not just end here! Here's how you can mix and match the Tsubaki products for different experiences!

All Tsubaki ranges will be exclusively available at Watsons in April 2012.

The Sloane Clinic Body Beautiful Workshop

Tuesday, March 27, 2012
A couple of weeks back, I was invited by Sharon from The Sloane Clinic to attend their Body Beautiful Workshop. I wouldn't actually call it a workshop, more like a talk. However, the talk was very informative and I went home with a wider understanding of the different weight loss procedures, and a more in-depth knowledge of how the procedures go, as well as the different types of procedures and the way they work.

While waiting for the workshop to begin~

The Workshop was held at Yu Cuisine, which is opposite their MBS outlet (and serves good food btw!). During the talk, we were introduced to the 3 different types of non-invasive weight loss treatments which include CoolSculpting, Ultrashape, and Body Shape by Thermage

Dr. Melvin Tan presenting on CoolSculpting
CoolSculpting, in layman terms, is actually a procedure that uses cold air to freeze your fat cells down. It has 0 down time (meaning that you can continue with your usual stuff immediately after the treatment) but may cause bruising to the treated area.
"CoolScuplting by Zeltiq uses a non-invasive applicator to target and remove fat cells in localized areas on the body. The device is applied to the target area and then its starts reducing the temperature to attain the right coldness to selectively target the fat cells in that area.
The body responds with an inflammatory reaction that causes the body to dispose of the broken down fat cells. The result is a reduction of the treated fat buldge (“love handles” or “muffin top”) that appears 2-4 months after treatment. The whole procedure (for each section) takes 1-2 hours on average. "

Dr Chua Han Boon presenting on Ultrashape

Ultrashape (as derived from the treatment procedure) actually uses targeted Ultrasound waves to specifically aim at controlled depths to get rid of fat cells.
"High intensity ultrasound energy is focused and delivered at a precisely controlled depth to blast unwanted fat cells away safely and painlessly, without harming surrounding tissue, vessels, nerves or skin. The free fat is then drained away by our lymphatic system to be metabolized and eliminated naturally. Multi-centre controlled trials reassure doctors and patients that the free fats released do not accumulate and raise blood lipid levels."

Light snacks were served after the talk and the participants of the workshop got to clarify their doubts with the different doctors.

You girls (or guys) can check out on the links I provided above for more information on the different procedures! (:. Alternatively, (If you're interested) call up to clinic and book a consultation to see which is more suitable for you!

Personally, this is the first I've heard of The Sloane Clinic. However, the two sisters that I was seated beside (Amy and Cecelia if I remember correctly) were such fans of the clinic, they couldn't stop singing praises to me! They're regulars and they were telling me about how much they love the service and the treatments offered at The Sloane Clinic. These are something I will definitely want to try out in the future! (Maybe after pregnancy in the future to get rid of the stubborn fat :P)

We each got to take home a Detox kit which also contains more information about the different procedures for the face and body. (Even has information on plastic surgery!)

These talks are held pretty regularly, as I was told by Sharon, so if any of you are interested to attend the future talks, you can keep a lookout at The Sloane Clinic's Facebook Page.

Aromatherapy and Makeup Workshop with Pro Academy

Sponsored
Last week, I was invited to attend an Aromatherapy and Makeup workshop with Pro Academy. The Academy is located at 75 Tras Street, #01-01 Singapore 079014, which is around the Tanjong Pagar area.

Just a little background on Pro Academy:
"Established in late 2010, PRO Academy was born through synchronous events that led a team of inspiring professionals to come together with a common vision and that vision was to establish a world-class academy where knowledge and skills are imparted to those who aspire to become professionals in various beauty, aesthetics and wellness disciplines.
Committed to providing students with the highest quality training both nationally and internationally, PRO Academy offers a variety of certificate and diploma-level courses in all aspects of beauty, nail, make-up and bodywork disciplines."

We started the workshop early in the morning, and we were first brought around the establishment for a tour of the academy by Sabrina.

They have different areas for the different types of workshop/courses, and are currently in the midst of getting into hairstyling courses as well.

They also carry a few professional brands of skincare and makeup products (and accessories) that you can purchase at the academy.

Check out the array of makeup - WANT!

We then headed back into the 'lecture' area where we began the workshop. The workshop started with introductions to aromatherapy, and the contents ranged from the different types of essential oils, to the uses, as well as how to differentiate the high and low quality oils. (I'm not going to reveal the full contents so if you're interested, you can go check out more about the workshop and attend it to get the hands on experience ^^)

There are many different types of essential oils, and one of the most expensive is Rose (Which i mentioned before in the post for another essential oil workshop.) which costs roughly $20 PER DROP. One of the oils with the most uses is Lavender.

We also got to make our very own personalised essential oil serum to bring home. (I have been using this for the past few nights and I really like the way it smelt and absorbed onto my skin. You guys can find out the formulation of my serum in a bit!)
Ingredients for making the serum..

I made the recipe for combination skin! It smells like Rose because there is an essential oil that smells similar to rose - Geranium - in it.

Measure 10ml of the medium oil (in this case it's the scentless Sweet Almond Oil)

Pour into the provided 15ml bottles..

Add the essential oils according to the recipe

Put on the cap, and the mix it up well (tilt the bottle back and forth)

Check out the other bloggers in action! Everyone's so engrossed in their serum making~

And tadaaaaaah! My 'masterpiece'

That was the end of the aromatherpy workshop. After that, we had a short break for lunch before starting with the makeup workshop.

Makeup time~

I didn't have much of a transformation because I used the same pairs of eyelashes that I went to the workshop with, but i never expected to be able to pull off such strong eyeshadow colours! I just levelled up my makeup skill :D.
