Confidence is beautiful

Wednesday, October 31, 2012
So many of you may find that the title of today's post a little different from what I usually write, but today's post will be about being confident about yourself. I'm writing this to hopefully inspire all of you to be confident about being true to yourself and finding your own identity.

(random insert of a self shot)

In our society these days, having the ability to be confident in yourself and knowing the true talent you possess is hard - because we are generally run by the influences of the media; whether it is with regards to their perception of "beauty" or their generalisation of being a genius which is narrowed down to just being book smart (showing good results in school and the likes), I notice that we are constantly being fed these subliminal messages of which is "right" or "wrong", "pretty" or "ugly", or "smart" or "stupid".

And when people group you into the lesser of the 2 "categories", this is when your confidence starts to dip. You start getting negative about yourself and all the negativity and bad energy builds around you, which will make your confidence level even lower, leading it into a cycle. You will start to ponder whether or not you really are as people tell you that you are and sometimes you fall into the black hole and start to believe that you are. (On a side note - please never tell anyone that they're ugly, because the emotional wound is really quite traumatising to the person on the receiving end, especially if she's a girl.)

Think about it. If you're not book-smart, does it mean that you're not talented otherwise, and are indeed stupid? If someone else thinks you're wrong or that what you're doing is "socially-unacceptable", does it necessarily mean that you are? If you're "ugly", does that mean you will not be "pretty" in someone else's eyes?

You don't have to fit into a mould that everyone else is trying to push you into, and fit themselves into.
Just imagine yourself being a square block, what are the chances of you passing through the triangular hole?? But somewhere else, there is a square hole waiting for you. As I quote from Albert Einstein: “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

I myself am a pretty good example: I don't have any certifications show (I didn't complete my O's so my highest certification would be my PSLE certificate) but it doesn't mean I'm dumb, or that I will never make it into society. I was never a self-confident person but I found myself, and my confidence (although I'm still a little insecure at times), in blogging and doing what I am doing now.

My say would be to believe in yourself and let nobody tell you otherwise. Take everything with a pinch of salt and don't let anything unnecessary get to you.
(Of course, don't be stubborn or do something ridiculous like insisting that pushing someone off a 6 storey building is acceptable)

I hope this post gave you guys and girls some food for thought, and that they will keep all of you strong and tall to keep going, this mid-week. I think that people who are confident (note: confident, not over-confident) are really beautiful, not just inside, but as well as outside because they just seem to elude this certain charm and charisma.

And with this, I shall end off with a quote from one of my favourite movies - The Princess Diaries.
"Nobody can make you feel bad about yourself unless you allow them to."

Lots of love,
Jamie

Skin79's BB Cleanser

Tuesday, October 23, 2012
I know it's been a good while since I've posted a beauty review, so I'm back with more to come! Today's review will be on a cleaner which was actually sent to me quite a good while back, which will explain the watermark with my old url. During the period which I received this, I also had quite a few products to try out at the same time, so I tried it quickly and forgot about it ):. Today, I decided to pick it up again when I saw it by my sink counter and I'm here with a review for it.

Skinbiotics - 8 weeks to younger skin from within.

Monday, October 22, 2012
I've been trying out a few different beauty supplements lately so expect there to be supplements reviews coming up shortly after this one. Amongst all the supplements I've tried (and am trying), Skinbiotics is one that definitely makes it into my a-list, albeit being a little costly. You may have already seen the commercials for it, with Fann Wong as their ambassador/spokesperson.

ChocGoji - Chocolate Covered... Wolfberries?

Wednesday, October 17, 2012
Most of us are definitely already familiar with the usual chocolate-covered raisins or almonds, but chocolate covered Wolfberries (goji berries)?? Now that's a first.
I was sent a few packets of this innovative snack to try out over the past weeks (comes in Dark Chocolate, Sugar Free Chocolate, and Milk Chocolate), and I gotta say I've really developed a liking to them. I've always seen my mum use the wolfberries in soups because of the many health benefits such as supposedly improving your eyesight, but I've never actually ingested any before when I drink the soups.

Cherish the moment

Tuesday, October 9, 2012
I haven't done this for a very long time now, writing a wordy post about just how life is going. Right now, life is going pretty good for me, with tons of happiness in my life. Blogging-wise, I'm getting more opportunities, meeting and working with new people, as well as forging bonds with some - and I'm a generally happy person. However, there are times when I just stop and think about how fast everything is going and passing me by, that I have realised that it's too overwhelming for me to digest it all. At times I really wish time would stop because the seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, and years are passing by me too quickly, and I want to cherish every single moment of it, more than I do right now.

Looking back, I really wonder where the past few years went. In a blink of an eye, I've already known B for 4 years, and have stopped schooling for 2. I've made so many friends from blogging, and have already known a handful of them for over a year now, and so many of them are also moving forward in their lives at such an astonishing pace.

Anyone of you feel like that too?

I've generally been a pretty laid back (and probably lazy) person all my life so it feels like I'm currently en route in the express lane with life. At times it almost feels like I'm being pushed admist the crowd of people to struggle to keep up with their pace. I want to remind myself here that blogging is a form of relief for me, not something that should be causing me any stress (not that it does) at any given point of time.

Okay, maybe this post is not *that* wordy but it feels good to have a load off my chest, to have some place to voice this out because I never realised this (until this moment when I started the post) when I spend my time with B because he tries to keep to my pace as opposed to dragging me along with his.

Anyway, I've been trying out a few new products sent to me for consideration for reviews and there are really a few of them that I'm loving! Will definitely post up reviews soon (i know i haven't done so in a long time) so you guys can keep a lookout for that.

A little bit of otaku

Sunday, October 7, 2012
So for those of you who don't already know, I'm a huuuuuuge fan of mangas and anime, and this post will be a short one on the current animes that I'm watching. I'm really superficial when it comes to my anime so chances are unless I really like the art, I won't watch it, and I'm a sucker for romance so even a little bit of romance, as well as comedy is a must. I've also linked the website where I watch it with the anime titles so you guys can check it out too if you're interested.

#1 Sword Art Online (SAO)
OMGWTFBBQ This has got to be one of the animes I'm most obsessed with in a long time, for those who are interested in the story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sword_Art_Online. Basically the story's protagonist is Kirito (Kirigaya Kazuto) who was one of 10,000 people who got trapped in a VRMMORPG (virtural reality mass multiplayer online role playing game) which was Sword Art Online. After the first day of the launch, they received news that this wasn't a normal RPG game, and that they will be unable to log out unless they have defeated all bosses in the 100-level tower - the catch was that if they died in the game they'd die in real life too. Personally, I really looooooove the art and got so caught up in this I actually went to read the Visual Novel. Ok I really need to stop getting so caught up on this.

#2 Kamisama Hajimemashita
Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonari_no_Kaibutsu-kun
Really funny anime, and again, great art too. Nanami is actually a high school girl who got chased out of her house due to her father's gambling debt. She then wandered around the streets and meet this guy called Mikage, who (without her knowing) actually passed his Earth Deity status to her. It's a pretty funny anime and I gotta admit Tomoe is really quite the hottie :P. Can't wait till they fall in love!

#3 Tonari No Kaibutsu-kun
Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonari_no_Kaibutsu-kun
Another funny one which revolves around a girl named Shizuku (who's main goal in life is to earn 10million yen/year and ignores anything else that doesn't have anything to do with her achieving her goal) and a guy named Haru who is really naive but violent. I can't really explain this, but this is a shoujo anime revolving around the theme of friends and school-life, I'm also reading the manga too and it really is quite funny, yet at the same time sweet and tugs at your heartstrings.

Ok that's about it! Back to watching my animes :D.

Braces Journy Part (II)

Friday, October 5, 2012
Back with another update regarding my braces. My orthodontist kindly sent me my "Before" and "After" images and when looking at them, i noticed that in my earlier video, I realised that I had pointed out the wrong tooth that I had extracted. Random self-shot image of me to make up for the following shots of my teeth.

Anyway, here are the shots of my teeth, before and after, + a little round up of my braces experience.
