I'm sure you guys already know I'm a firm believer in using beauty tools to help achieve better results in skincare. Today, I'm here to share my thoughts and review on a couple of new products I've been trying out (and really loving). If you haven't seen a brief introduction to my thoughts on it, here's my YouTube video on it.

First up, let me talk about the Dual Cleanser.
Unlike other cleansing devices I've used before, this is the sleekest-looking one by far. I can't wait to display it on my vanity when I get my own house in the future. It is also able to operate on 2 different cleaning modes (between a rotation motion and a micro-vibration) based on the type of head attached for the best results. I like that this device "speaks" to you (as shown in my YouTube video) and lets you know when to move to a different area of your face (and how long you should be cleansing each area) so that you can use this absent-mindedly regardless of how tired you am.

The Dual Cleanser is also great for travel because of how regular the shape is. Plus, a single charge can last up to 3 months! I'm definitely bringing it along for my upcoming trips.

The 70 seconds cleaning cycle goes like this: Left Cheek, Right Cheek, Nose, Chin, Forehead. You can also pick from 2 different levels of cleansing strength to customise every cleansing session.

Personally, I use the silicon head for mornings and the brush head for nights.
The brush head allows for a deeper cleanse which is perfect after a long day out and from wearing makeup and the likes. Both cleanser heads are very gentle on the skin so it's great even for those of you who may have sensitive skin. They work very well to dislodge any dirt and sebum trapped within the pores!

After using the dual cleanser, I will follow up with my skincare as per normal. It isn't too harsh on the skin so I can use my acid products without my skin getting over-exfoliated or too sensitive. A new addition I've also added into my routine is the Pra.L Derma LED Mask.
With 160 IR and LED lights, the Pro.L Derma LED Mask not only helps with anti-aging, but also pigmentation and pore size issues. This technology is also used in many spas and aesthetic clinics so I know it is something that is effective. I wasn't sure whether it is placebo, but I personally could feel that my skin looks brighter immediately after using it, but of course the best results will come with longer continued usage.

One of the little detail I really liked about the Derma LED Mask is that besides also "speaking" to you (in the same way the Dual Cleanser does but in 3 minutes intervals), the mask is also mostly "wireless". It only attaches to the remote that also doubles as the power source to the mask and it makes it so easy to move around with the mask on. The interior is also padded around your eye and nose area so it was extremely comfortable to wear, just like a pair of sunglasses, so you can go about hands free!

The one-way transparent-mirror eye area also allows you to retain your vision field while being protected from the lights. You can look out, but no one can see your eyes! For me, this made it perfect for using my phone while I have the Derma LED Mask on.

If you're someone who prefers to relax instead, the mask allows me to lay down comfortably without any obstruction.

LG's Pra.L System is now available at Tangs. There are some ongoing promotions for the month of October for the entire Pra.L range, so do check it out!

Bifesta Sensitive Micellar

Sponsored Advertorial

Hey guys! It's been such a long time since I've last updated here. I nearly forgot what it feels like to be editing pictures for a blog post. Reviving this space today with a lil review (and advertisement) on one of my newfound favourites.

I have always been a user of micellar water for as long as I can remember - it's lightweight, effective, and most importantly, quick and easy to use without breaking my skin out. One of the brands I have used for a super long period is Bifesta. It's not only super affordable ($18.90 a bottle) but works very well. Not to mention, always A+ for Japanese products and their packaging!

Mooooving on to the star of today's post, Bifesta Sensitive Micellar Cleansing Lotion (for city skin)
So, what exactly is "city skin"?
As people who live in the city, our skin is exposed to a myriad of external stress that might cause or aggravate certain skin conditions such as dryness and itching. A bad diet and lack of sleep can also make you more susceptible to break outs and skin sensitivity!

This new Sensitive Micellar Cleansing lotion helps to build your defense against the external aggressors of city life for healthy and hydrated skin. In particular, the Bifesta Micellar Cleansing Lotions are also incredibly easy to use – just pump it onto a cotton pad and wipe your makeup off.
It's super easy to use and the Bifesta Micellar water keeps my skin super moisturised so it's perfect if you hate the tight feeling after using certain cleansers. You can choose to not rinse off after removing your makeup with the micellar water, but i do have the habit of double cleansing so I will usually follow up with my cleanser before proceeding with my skincare routine.

I don’t usually wear heavy makeup on a daily basis so this micellar water is perfect for me! It’s very effective and removed everything super easily so I don’t have to worry about tugging too hard on my skin (which might lead to wrinkles!).

If that's not enough for you - here's how it performs against heavier makeup!

This is definitely definitely one of my favourites (and top recommendations) for an affordable and effective makeup remover. It is now available at all major drugstores, supermarkets, and leading departmental stores. I highly recommend for you girls to try this out, and let me know if you like it as much as I do too!

Juchheim Jewellery Baum & Manekineko Baum

Saturday, July 14, 2018
Hi everyone! It's been a while since I last touched this space. I guess everyone's kind of moved on to other platforms and I'm a little out of touch on how to start a blog post hahaha. So please, bear with me if my sentences seem a little short, like Instagram captions.

Juchheim invited a few of us bloggers down to their Takashimaya outlet (at the Food Hall, where the Japanese food are) last weekend to preview their newly launched Jewellery Baum and Manekineko Baum - and we got to leave with some sweet treats to share with our friends and families!

I'm not gonna lie, I am not a huge fan of sweets and cakes. Never really had a sweet tooth from when I was younger - so I brought the boyfriend along to try out the cakes as well so that I can give a more comprehensive review on it!

The first thing that caught my eye when I reached the counter was how pretty these cakes are. The new Jewellery Baum really lives up to it's name. It was almost like shopping at a jewellery store, where everything is displayed behind the glass display - and it was sparkling like a piece of jewellery would.

The Jewellery Baum comes in 5 different flavours - Berries, Orange, Mango, Matcha, and Coffee. My personal favourite is Mango and Berries since I really like fruity flavours. They were a little sweet for me, but everyone else thought that they were alright, so it was probably just my lack of a sweet tooth. However, I think these cakes would go very well with tea, so it's a good item to get for gatherings with your girlfriends!

Besides how sweet I felt it was, I actually really enjoyed the Jewellery Baum. The cake surrounding the jelly is nice and soft, but the jelly provides an interesting contrast in textures and flavours. The boyfriend also approves! Look at how happy he is eating the sweets.

Along with the Jewellery Baum, Juchheim has also launched their Manekineko Baum. For those of you who are familiar with Manekineko, you'd know that it is a prosperity cat.

The Manekineko Baum is specially made to have 8 layers as it is a symbol of prosperity in Chinese! It is made of the same batter as their original (and best selling) Baumkuchen, and tastes just as good. The cake is slightly dense but very fragrant. If you enjoy kueh lapis, you'd find that this is like a lighter (and less oily) version of it!

Enough of me rambling about how good the cakes are, I think the best way for you guys to find out is to head down to their counter to find out. They provide free samples (and rather generous portions) so you can try out which is to your liking before purchasing!

Juchheim is located at 391 Orchard Road Singapore 238873, Takashimaya Food Hall.
Jewellery Baum retails for $3 a piece; Manekineko Baum retails for $23.80.

5 Things To Know Before Getting Your Nose Fillers Done

Monday, February 13, 2017
A photo posted by Jamie Tan 🦄 (@jamietyj) on

Happy New Year everyone! Before Chinese New Year came about, I went to get my nose fillers touched up. I've previously gotten my nose bridge fillers done and this time round, I thought I'd share with you guys some things you should know before deciding if you want to get yours done too.

This time round, I got my fillers done at Calvin Chan Aesthetics and Laser at Wheelock.

1. Know what type of filler you are using.
Based on what I know, the most common type of fillers used are HA (Hyaluronic acid) ones because of its compatibility with the human body, with it already being found in our bodies. I have tried both Juvéderm and Restylane and both worked well for me. Depending on your doctor, they might recommend different fillers for different parts of the face because of how the fillers work and how long they last. I had one syringe injected this time round, and it will last anywhere from 6~12 months depending on my body's metabolic rate.

2. Be open to suggestions.
Obviously the doctor will know what's best for you, which is why it is important to go to a experienced and reputable clinic/doctor for procedures like fillers. Doctor Chan recommended that I filled the tip area instead of my usual nose bridge area, and I'm really glad that he did. I always thought that I will never be able to make my nose look smaller with fillers, but filling up the tip did help it. It also helped with making my face look more defined and I loved it. Plus, the fillers looked really natural and I've gotten many compliments regarding it.

3. It should not hurt.*
This is the third time I'm getting fillers done and I've never once experienced any pain. The doctors I've went to were all very meticulous and I would have never done it again if there was any pain. You can however, definitely feel a mild pressure as the fillers are being injected - but that goes away after you're done - which should be in 10~15 minutes.

*I do have to say though, as I've not done any derma fillers on any other parts of my face, I'm not sure if other parts will hurt (eg. lips or tear trough). Make sure to ask your doctor all the questions you need to. If necessary, do your research and write it down before you do your consultation.

4. It might bruise.
As there is a needle injection, some people might experience bruising - a problem which I did not have. The red marks from the injection, which were not too noticeable until close up, faded away after 2 days and I was already able to use makeup to cover it after the first day. Again, this might differ for different areas.

5. It will settle after a couple of days
You should expect your fillers to decrease in volume about 20% after a couple of days because of how it reacts with your body. What some doctors do is to inject more than what you think you want, and let it settle; others might inject it to what you want, and if you want to fill up the area more after you can head back to touch up (since fillers are sold in syringes and you have to use them up within 3 months). Therefore, keep in mind that the area may not look exactly like how it did when you leave the clinic.

Rosette Hello Kitty Facial Wash

Saturday, December 24, 2016
Back today to share with you girls another new addition to the Rosette family (and boy are you Hello Kitty lovers going to love this) - Rosette's Hello Kitty Yuzu-Hachimitsu Facial Wash and Hello Kitty Uji-Matcha Kintoki Facial Wash. These are limited edition so do grab them quickly!

Since my first post, I'm sure all of you can tell that I'm definitely a fan of Rosette's cleansers. They are not only affordable, they are great for your skin and gets the job done well.
Both cleansers have a "sticky" gel consistency that makes a really fluffy dense foam.

Rosette Hello Kitty Uji-Matcha Kintoki Facial Wash ($10.90)
Got to admit I was really excited to try this one as I'm a huge fan of green tea/matcha. I've long known that matcha contains a high amount of antioxidants (which fight free-radicals, and therefore tend to have anti-aging properties) so I had high hopes for this one. It has the definitive fragant scent of matcha which makes it really relaxing and soothing. Besides it's antioxidant benefit, this cleanser helps to treat dark spots on the face, calm pimples and acne, and will improve your skin condition over time. This also contains Azuki red beans which helps to brighten your skin.

The matcha cleanser foams up really easily and washes off very easily too. It leaves a nice and clean feel after, without feeling too tight. In fact, my skin really does glow after using it.

Rosette Hello Kitty Yuzu-Hachimitsu Facial Wash ($10.90)
I am also a fan of Yuzu so it does feel like this range was catered to me haha. For those of you who have dryer skin and will prefer something more moisturizing, I will definitely recommend this instead. The Yuzu scent smells very natural and is very refreshing. It also contains honey, which is a humectant and has anti-inflammatory properties (so this might be perfect for you if you have skin that's dry on the surface but oily beneath). Plus, it claims to help with fading scars!
I do prefer to use this at night as it is more moisturizing than the matcha one, but it does help protect your skin against UV rays (but you still have to put sunblock on). Again, just like the other cleansers, they foam up really nicely and washes off very cleanly. I definitely felt like my skin was more moisturized after using this than my other cleansers.

Rosette cleansers are available at all SASA, Watsons, and BHG ALT Concept Stores.

Rosette Nature Blend Peeling Gel + Clay Mask

Sunday, October 9, 2016
While it is important that we cleanse our face well, it is equally important to exfoliate and hydrate the skin. I've always been a sucker for skincare, and today I have something new to share with you guys from Rosette.

Rosette has just launched two new products to add on to their existing range of facial cleansers - Nature Blend Peeling Gel and Nature Blend Clay Pack. Both of the new products contain special ingredients to help rejevenate the skin.

Pearl Powder: Accelerates new skin growth. Softens and firm. Heals acne and blemishes. Increases elasticity.
Squalene Oil: Hydrates the skin to help reduce the appearance of fine line and wrinkles. Lightens skin pigmentation.
Seaweed Extract: Contains a lot of essential vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants to keep the skin revitalized, moisturized, and youthful. Anti-inflammatory, and is effective in expelling toxins from pores.

Nature Blend Marine Peeling Gel ($11.90)
If you are keeping up with your skincare regime and still find that your skin looks dull, it could be that you aren't exfoliating enough. I exfoliate daily with my sonic cleanser, but that might be too harsh for some of you - especially if you suffer from acne. One of the solution is to use a peeling gel - which works by sticking to the dead skin cells and balling them up so that you can easily wash it off. It's really gentle so there's no worrying about it overworking your skin!

Start off with a cleansed and dry face, then apply an appropriate amount (3~4cm) of peeling gel onto your face. Massage it in with circular motions. After about a minute, you can easily rinse the product off to reveal bright and soft skin!
I do really like the fact that this is so gentle and it's actually really fun to use. Plus, i appreciate it being a thicker gel texture so that it's easier to apply without the mess. I remember when peeling gels first appeared on the market, they were not only expensive but quite liquidly - which made it harder to use without dripping.

Marine Blend Clay Pack ($14.90)
The clay pack contains 3 types of clay (marine, green, and white) to remove dead skin and absorb dirt hiding in pores to prevent dull and lusterless complexion. It also helps to speed up cell turnover while purifying the skin, and closes up dilated pores.

Again, use this on a cleansed and dry face. Apply it to the face and wash it out after 3~5 minutes.
This was a really interesting one to use because most of the clay packs I have used are always on the dryer side - which tends to dry up the skin as well (which made them suitable for oily but not dry skin). The Marine Blend Clay Pack goes on really smooth and moist, and my skin felt super soft and hydrated after rinsing off. Plus, extra points for the fact that it only takes a short amount of time (3~5 minutes) to pamper your skin. Lazy girls will love this! In fact, you can put a thicker layer than I did and use it 2~3 times a week.

Both products are available in Watson stores islandwide.

Rosette "Pasta" Face Wash

Friday, July 8, 2016
I think I have said this countless of times before, but to get great skin, cleansing is very important. While I am a huge fan of make up, I defnitely think that without a good base, your makeup will not look as good as it can be. Besides it being makeup prep, proper cleansing also allows your skin to breathe after a long day of exposure to the sun/pollutants in the air and helps in skincare absorbtion.

I was recently sent and have been trying out Rosette's Face Washes and now I am completely hooked. Rosette is a skincare brand founded in Japan, and it means "Elegance of Rose" and "Nobility", and their very first product was a paste-type facial wash made with sulfur (for acne protection). Now, Rosette has 4 different types of face washes to suit every skin type.

One of the things I found interesting was that the face wash was called "pasta" face wash - and that is apparently due to the wash's fine texture and doughy form - so do bear in mind that this isn't a typo!

Since being introduced to beauty products, I have had tried a lot of Japanese brands' face washes and I noticed one thing that was consistent through their products is that they tend to prefer gentle face washes that produce a large amount of thick, fluffy foam. This is due to their skincare belief that this not only helps with better cleansing, but also reduces the amount of force and friction on the skin, thus helping maintain the youthful look (no wrinkles).

The one that I was most interested to first try out was the White Clay (Pink, contains White Clay, Hyaluronic Acid and Marine Collagen) as I feel that it's always good to start anti-aging early. If you have oily/acne prone skin, try the blue tube, and if you have sensitive/normal skin I would recommend the green one! The clays all produced a very thick and rich lather, but I feel that the White Clay was the densest.

They were all easy to lather.. I got a rich lather within seconds!

The foam feels so fluffy and smooth it's like washing your face with a cloud. I really liked that it leaves your face feeling squeaky clean without drying it out or making it feel tight. Plus, this is really great for those of you with acne problems (the blue tube) because it is so gentle and will not aggravate your acne. I prefer a bit more exfoliation so I use this with my Clarisonic after massaging it onto my skin for a while.

What's unique about Rosette’s facial wash is the use of different natural clay (Sea Clay, Ghassoul and White Clay) to suit different skin types and solve different skin problems. This way, not only is your skincare targetted to suit your skin, but your cleanser is as well!

If you are younger and have normal/acne-prone skin type, I'm pretty sure you'd like the Kaidei Smooth or Acne Clear one. I used to have oily skin and very often, cleaners targetted at such issues will strip your skin of natural oils and make it feel really tight - which is not an issue I've experienced with Rosette's facial washes.

I have tried all but the Acne one because that is not suitable for my skin type, and I'm glad to say that they all get a thumbs up from me. My favourite will have to be a tie between White Clay (Lifting) and Ghassoul (Whitening)!

All of Rosette's face washes are without added colours, fragrances or mineral oils, it still smells really nice and refreshing. What's best? They only cost $9.90, which will be really affordable for students too!

Rosette is available at all SASA and Watsons stores.
