Anyway, I'm sure if you've been following my blog you'd have noticed the lack of reviews as opposed to in the past. I don't remember exactly when, but the condition of my skin really dipped. My forehead was sooo clogged and I didn't want to go out and be seen without makeup ):. It was recently that I decided that I've had enough - and was going to seek professional help for it. Even B, who usually doesn't really notice, commented on how bad my skin had been ))):.
My choice was DRx Clinic, which is located very conveniently at Tong Building (the building between Lucky Plaza and Paragon, otherwise recognised as "The Rolex Building"), after seeing so many great reviews on them and their Derma-Rx products. I checked out the website and decided that this was where I wanted to spend my money at.
(*I want to clarify here that I am now thankfully being sponsored by them, but my review on their journey would still be 100% honest because I was already prepared to pay for my treatment and still blog about my journey.)
Consultation will range from $50~$80, depending on the doctor - and subsequent visits will cost $35~$50. Appointments can be made online via their website.
I made my appointment on a Friday afternoon (which was yesterday) right after lunch break. The clinic was easy to find, and has a very bright clean interior design.
Being my first visit there, I was asked to fill up a short form with my personal details and such. Also, I personally liked that the clinic has a section for you to fill up with regards to the name you preferred to be addressed by. For me, a lot of people can't/wrongly pronounce my name "Yi Jing" but because "Jamie" isn't in my IC, I can't include it in my customer profile , so I find that this is really a little touch that makes it feel more customised. Also, at the prescription counter, your name will be called out just like normal clinics, so if you have a name that you don't like you'd love this little touch.
My doctor was Dr. Angela Hwee, or Dr. Angela. She's a really nice and sweet lady... and not to mention that her skin is perfect. I want skin like hers!! I actually took a picture with her, but it's in the other memory card so I'll post it some other day. Consultations with Dr. Angela would be $50 and $35 for follow-up visits.
After that, I was asked to go to the photo-taking room. This is where they take "before" shots of the client for profiling (so that doctors can monitor the progress) and will be kept confidential. Permission will be asked for should they want to use your images. Here are the "before" shots I took by myself at the clinic. Now you guys know why I swear by the Casio Exilim TR150 for face shots?!
Moving along, I was ushered into the "briefing room", which was where a consultant would brief us on how to use the products. Along with showing us the sample of the products (yours remain brand new until you open them yourself), with a user guide listing clear instructions on how to use them.
Afterwards, just take a seat and wait for your name to be called to pick up your prescription!
If any of you are interested, here's the price list of the items. Some of the items I got weren't listed, but this is most of them. I will list down what I got in just a bit.
You will be asked to go for your consultation without make up on, but if you are self conscious about leaving the clinic without makeup, they have a private make up area for you to "put your face on".
The overall consultation took less than an hour - because it only took me an hour to tour the entire DRx Clinic and Spas, plus my consultation!
Here's what I left the clinic with. My customised regime! If you are looking to buy the items, I would suggest you go for the consultation as well to find out which products would really suit you best, as well as instructions on how to use them. For optimal effectiveness, you are to stop your existing skincare regime - which I was willing to do if this could solve my skin's problem.
1. Prime To prepare the skin for treatment or nourishment so that your skin can benefit best from the next step.
2. Remedy As the word suggests, to "solve" the skin's problems.
3. Protect Prevention is better than cure. There is no point in constantly having to solve problems with your skin if you are not protecting it.
The products are abbreviated so that people who have little education (say, our parents who are uneducated in English) will be able to call in and enquire about the products without a problem. I really like how they are constantly thinking of their customers! Also, the abbreviation makes it easier to remember the steps as well.
Also, do note that for the same products, others may be directed to use it differently. This will be a preliminary rundown of the items I received because I just started using them. Will review them after trying for a longer period of time!

Anti-Blemish Mask, 60g. S$59.92. Intensive corrective mask for oily, congested, and blemish-prone skin. Removes excess oil, exfoliates, and cleanses pores. Clears comedones and help to control further break-puts and blemishes. Soothes and calm the skin, and can be used as spot treatment for break-outs. Only for my night regime, 2~4 times a week. Spread a generous layer over the face, avoiding eye area and lip area. Leave on for at least 30 minutes (I was directed to leave it on for an hour) before rinsing off.
Do you know that the sun is the greatest culprit in many skin care problems??
5BLiposomal Sunscreen (SPF 30+). 60ml, S$62.06. Advanced water-and-sweat-resistant sunscreen, delivering board-spectrum protection against UV exposure. To be applied generously over face and neck in the day time, at least 15~30minutes before sun-exposure.
*They have tinted sunscreen available but I was advised against it because I have oily skin and this would be the most suitable for me.
Like I mentioned, while on the Derma-Rx regime, you will be advised to not use any other products to ensure maximum efficacy of the regime. However, you can still use makeup as per normal.
I also told you guys about me telling Dr Angela about my back problem, so she prescribed these two little bottles for me.
That's it for the products I received. I used them just last night and today the bumps on my forehead have become smaller!! I'm so glad! I'm not even exaggerating! I will be going back to visit Dr. Angela for my follow up in about 1 month's time! :)
After that, I was taken around the clinic and spa (they occupy the entire level 16, and half of level 14. Clinic is located at Level 16).
Other than skin care, DRx Clinic also does Trichology, Laser Treatments, and Facials. And they are very well loved by local magazines such as Harper's Bazaar!
Psssst, the oral supplement has won the title 3 years in a row!
Further in the consultation rooms, there is actually a private waiting area for patients who are going to get laser treatment done soon. Reason being that they usually need to have numbing cream pre-laser, and this is so that they don't have to be in the main waiting area exposed for all to see.
These 2 machines are in every treatment room!
And finally, the hair treatment area (@ Level 14)
I hope you guys enjoyed reading this post and let me know if you have any questions or are interested in anything in the comments section below! I will do my best to answer to the best of my abilities, or refer your question back. Stay tuned for my next DRx update!

Did you ended up spending over $500 for it ?
ReplyDeleteI mean, it is worth it if it can promise one clear skin. But if students go, they might have to know abt the fees beforehand, saving up for it prior going for consultation.
The list of products I got that has their price stated + the $50 consultation fee amounts to over $600, so I guess my trip there would have cost me $600~$700ish. I do admit it is not cheap, but I've seen great reviews on them so I was already willing to pay because this is not only to target the problem of congestion with skin, but to also help me achieve clearer and a more evenly toned skin as well. Plus, the products are to be able to last anytime ranging from 3~6 months, which is a run down of about $100~$200 a month.
DeleteI guess it also differs for each individual as well because everyone has different skin condition and different products will be prescribed to suit different skin needs :). Hope this helps!
I see, thank you :) Yup, it is definitely worth it.
DeleteJust that got to save up, as students like me cant afford it yet.
Anticipating for more reviews ;) after you tried the products for longer time.
Try to talk to your parents about it! :)
DeleteThanks sweetie, will definitely be updating!
I hope this isn't a rude question, but could skin problems be caused by not removing makeup correctly ? After all, there are chemical components in make-up products, and it may clog pores.
DeleteBtw, is it advisable to use bb cream just on areas that one have acne at ? I am fearful of using it on the whole face, but worry that the bb cream colour doesn't match my original skin tone.
May I also know which are the sigma brush for bb cream application ? Is it stippling brush ?
It isn't, no worries. Yup they could, because leftover makeup residue may irritate your skin. I always made sure I double-cleansed so I don't think that was the cause of it. Maybe it is because I wax my eyebrows and left the empty hair follicles for the sebum to get caught into, haha.
DeleteBB creams are supposed to be lightweight and you should have no problems with it applied all over your whole face, especially if you're worried that it won't match your skin tone. However, some BB creams tend to clog pores (some only clog your pores if worn for over x hours) so do take note of that. If possible, try not to wear makeup or remove them as soon as you get home.
For BB cream application, I personally find that applying with your fingertips works the best. They're formulated to be applied with fingertips, and the warmth of your fingers melts the product into your skin for a more natural application :).
Thanks for the advice :) Yup, removing makeup is an important step, but some girls tend to neglect, esp if they reach home late. I noticed that my friend have a dark patch (eyeliner stain) on her eyelids, although she did not wear any makeup for that day.
DeleteIt isn't possible for someone not to wear makeup, because it's rare to have baby smooth skin from such weather in SG.
Get her to use a q-tip with makeup remover to clean the area properly! Our eyes are too delicate!
DeleteYou don't have to have baby smooth skin to not wear make up, but just try to wear make up as little as you possibly can. The results of not wearing make up really shows - whether or not cleansed properly or not :)
I have a few blemishes on my face, and I find it uncomfortable. Wanted to try bb cream but kiasu. Scared I used the wrong one and it clog pores. In addition, I have oily t-zone, but it is common with teens and adults right ? To have slightly oily skin.
DeleteYup, it is common. Especially with such a warm climate like we have in Singapore. Try tinted moisturizers or sunblocks?
DeleteYou can go for a consultation, and if you don't think you require the full regime (although recommended for better results; look at comment below this) you can just buy what you think you need for your blemishes :).
Hmmm product prices are quite affordable but the consultation really is pricey -_-
ReplyDeleteFor Dr. Angela and Dr. David, their consultations are $50 and $35 for subsiquent visits :). Dr. Tan is $80 and $50 respectively.
DeleteI had went there last month. If you are below 21, your consultation fee and product fees will be at student price. It cost me abt $500+ for student consultation and products
ReplyDeleteOh I didn't know about the student prices! Thanks for the additional info :).
DeleteHi can I check with you, if I went there and would just like to purchase a few items like cleanse, tone and moisturizer, is that feasible? Cos I don't have like so much money for all the products.
ReplyDeleteYou could do that but it is not recommended because you see best results with the full range, which is customised to combat all the skin concerns that you may face. There are patients who have bought partial products and don't see much improvement.
DeleteThat being said, you will not be forced to buy the entire range - just let them know which products you want to get after the product briefing so that you will know how to use which products to combat certain problems. Hope this helps!
Hi jamie may i know if the skin clears up do you still have to continue using their products? Cos im afraid of clinic whereby once you stop using their products everything is back to square one. And i do not wan to rely on using it. i did try maple clinic (also very popular for skin prob clinic) and realise that their products dont really work on me. So waste of time and money
ReplyDeleteHi there!
DeleteI've actually asked about this and the answer is no, you can choose to stop using their products once your skin has cleared up. They do however, recommend to continue using their products to maintain the post-clearing skin condition. There are people who chose to stop the regime after their skin has cleared up, but I was told that they would soon return after recurring problems from using non-professional skincare products like DermaRx's. Apparently, many also opt to keep to the regime after their skin recovers. Entirely up to your own choice.
Personally, I would say that prevention would most definitely be better than cure, so if you can afford it (i think follow-up regime requires only the basic stuff?), I would definitely suggest you keep with it.
For DRx, after your first consultation, you will be required to go back for a 2nd one at least. Treatment time will depend on individuals and you may be required to use different products if the doctor feels that the results are not optimal - I was presribed with oral supplements during my follow up.
Hope this helps x :)
Hello! May I ask if the clinic provides birthmark removal treatments for Mongolian birthmarks? I want to get rid of mine so badly but I am scared I'll cost quite a sum of money. Is there any estimated amount?
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm not too sure on that but I think the clinic does have lasers for pigmentation? Would be better if you can call 'em up to ask about it!
DeleteI would like to know the price of ASL.
ReplyDeleteTks
I think it was about $25? Can't remember, will be better if you call up to check.
DeleteHow long did you spend in the consultation room?
ReplyDeleteDid you ask a lot of questions?
Not too long, can't remember exactly but probably less than 20 minutes. I did not. Dr Angela addressed everything I felt like I needed to know.
DeleteHi babe, read from your post that you were prescribed w pills for the back problem? How is it so far and can you share more about the pills? Normally, pills that control hormones work best but they are not good for women to consume too much. I wonder how could the pills help according to the doctor? And does one needs to be reliant on e pills (ie problem comes back once we stop consuming)?
ReplyDeleteThe prescribed pills were not for my back problems but for the over-active male hormones (which is the cause of breakouts and oily skin usually). I'm not too sure about the reliance because I have yet to stop my course of 'em.
DeleteHi Jamie ,
ReplyDeleteI'm having back acne problems as well. Have quite abit of scarring. What did the Dr prescribe you with? Do you know is there any treatment for back scarring?
Hi. I believe I have a picture of the 2 bottles of medication I was prescribed with to apply onto the affected area to help with my back issue. I don't have scarring so I'm not too sure on that. I believe there are (because they have ones for facial scarring) but it'd be best if you call up to clinic for further details instead :)
DeleteHi can I check how often do you have to go back for consultation?
ReplyDeleteUsually about a month or so (unless something arises and you decide you need to see your doctor earlier). Differs from individual though, your doctor will advise!
DeleteHi Jamie, how is the 2 bottles of medication working on you for your back? Honest feedback appreciated.
ReplyDeleteMy feedbacks are always honest lol. They did help with the problem I had on my back but you may be prescribed something different depending on your condition. Like I mentioned, would be best to call up the clinic or head down for a consultation.
DeleteI am concerned to read that the cleanser contained Triclosan. This is currently a very controversial agent to use as some studies have classed it as a probable human carcinogen (i.e. cancer causing substance) amongst other negative health concerns. This is of particular concern as Triclosan penetrates the skin on contact and enters the bloodstream. Currently, Triclosan's safety is under review by FDA and Health Canada.
ReplyDeleteI went to do some google-ing after seeing this comment and there have been articles stating its good and the reasons why it raises concerns. As of now, the cleanser is working well on me without any side effects :)
DeleteI would like to try Liposomal Sunscreen (SPF 30+) it's oily ?
ReplyDeleteNope it's not!

Can i ask if quoting your name for drx is only for skin related problems? As i know they do have something for hair as well, any promotions for that if to quote ur name?
ReplyDeleteAny idea if drx sell cosmetics? Im quite worry that if drx products do clear my skin, but the cosmetics that im using will worsen my skin :(
I haven't done any trico-services with DRx so quoting my name wouldn't get you any promotions with that, I think. From what I know, it should only be valid for the clinic side.
ReplyDeleteThey don't sell cosmetics, much as I wished they did as well. Make sure that you are using non-comedogenic products and always to remove your makeup properly and it shouldn't pose much of a problem :).
how did they begin sponsoring you?
ReplyDeleteI was offered a sponsorship?
ReplyDeleteThey contacted you via email?
ReplyDeleteYup.
ReplyDeletei have both face and body acne (on my chest, back, shoulders, thighs). i went to the drx clinic on monday and the doctor said that she'll prescribe me with a simple regimen for my face cos im still a student (15 yrs old).
ReplyDeletealso, i didnt tell the doctor about my body acne because there was the nurse standing beside and im afraid tht i'll embarrass myself if the doctor (angela yong) wants to see my body acne. im going for my next consultation next month. should i tell her about my body acne?
Of course! They are all professionals so don't be worried about it :).
ReplyDeleteHi Jamie, Can I just pop by and get the award winning skin supplement? =)
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for the reply. Deeply appreciated!
ReplyDeletehi jamie, can i check with you must i book at appointment or can i just walk in to the clinic instead. and how is the product working for ur backacne?
ReplyDeleteMake an appointment! Their doctors are really busy and packed so it would definitely be advised to make an appointment to avoid disappointment.
ReplyDeleteI've stopped using it awhile after because they stopped appearing, so I'd say it's pretty good :)
Hi Jamie! Can I check with you how to apply the CF as it is so watery! How to put on finger and dab?
ReplyDeletePut into your palm and dab with your fingers of the other hand!
ReplyDeleteHi, i had the same problem with acne and it has been so much better ever since my first consultation on April"14.

Hi Jamie, is there any consultation fee during the visit?
ReplyDeleteHi Chloe! There is. However, if you quote my name when making your appointment, you get your first 3 consultations free :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jamie. Is your back acne better now? I have the same problem as you and I would like to give Drx a try.. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi felicia how can i contact you to purchase your stuff? and how much? :)
ReplyDeleteHello, is this offer still valid (if i were to quote your name when making an appointment?)
ReplyDeleteIt's been getting better but I'm think it might work better if you apply the lotion every day because I don't as it is a little difficult to apply on by myself.
ReplyDeleteYup, it is! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is :)
ReplyDeleteHello Hello! Do you have information about the face slimming treatment from them?
ReplyDeletehello! im a male but is the offer by quoting your name still valid for now?
ReplyDeleteYup it is! :)
ReplyDelete
